A huge media uproar has arisen over VOX's statements or protocol for women seeking abortions in Castilla-León. And it must be said that the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) is a great expert at monopolizing any controversy as a success. Castilla-León is an aging region, with a low birth rate and a high mortality rate; see the excellent work by Marcos Ondara; https://theobjective.com/espana/2023-01-18/castilla-leon-nataalidad-envejecida/ Faced with this demographic problem, the State should have adopted measures to promote birth rates and support families to alleviate the effects of aging long ago. However, some prefer the policy of bringing in older immigrants, giving them a non-contributory pension, and waiting for the votes of those who benefit. On the other hand, this society is extremely inconsistent. Laws against animal abuse are passed, but the killing of a living being is considered an inalienable right of women. The existence of abortion as an option for women who cannot find another way to raise their child due to economic, social, or personal circumstances is one thing, but selling the killing of an unborn child as an "inalienable right" is quite another. We have reached a completely astonishing level of social degradation. The worst part is that the government's imposed narrative finds no response from the Popular Party, which shows itself to be "cowardly" in responding firmly and defending life, as if that were any less progressive. The Popular Party, by action or inaction, buys into the PSOE's argument to keep its distance from VOX. I believe this electoral strategy is not entirely correct, but it is certainly not progressive to opt for death instead of life. For years now, we have been immersed in a process of secularization that is advancing very rapidly, but to this day, according to the CIS (led by Tezanos), more than 56% of Spanish citizens still define themselves as Catholic. It is neither very democratic nor very intelligent to legislate against the majority. Only in a context of progressive dehumanization are animals protected more than people.
